John Mark Karr, the American schoolteacher who claims to have killed six-year-old beauty queen JonBenet Ramsey in Colorado in 1996, visited a sex-change clinic in Bangkok, Thailand, according to the Associated Press.
Karr, 41, had a consultation at the Pratunam Polyclinic—one of the best-known plastic surgery centers in Asia—said Thep Vechavisit, one of the doctors there. Bangkok is popular with foreigners seeking gender-reassignment surgery. Procedures are relatively cheap, with breast implants costing about $1,125, for example. Ironically, in light of the fact that Ramsey was in beauty contests, Pratunam Polyclinic itself sponsors its own pageant, although it is a transsexual one. Additionally, Karr had his sideburns and chin hair removed with lasers at the Siam Swan Cosmetic Clinic and its branches in downtown Bangkok during four sessions from March to July.
