Howard Brown Health Center officials announced Aug. 16 that Dr. Tom Barrett has been named the GLBT health agency’s chief medical director.

“We could not be happier that Tom has accepted this position at Howard Brown,” said HBHC President and CEO Michael Cook.

Barrett has been a medical provider at HBHC since 2000 and has helped develop a number of programs at the agency, including its transgender health program and other projects involving treatment for HIV and depression and HIV and hepatitis C.

Barrett is sub-investigator on all clinical studies at HBHC and primary investigator on several ongoing studies, including HBHC’s research on Rapid HIV Testing sponsored by the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. His honors include the Ravenswood Hospital Community Service Award and the Bristol-Meyers Squibb/Mead Johnson Award.

“I truly believe in the work that Howard Brown does, and I hope that I can help to inspire the next generation of providers who come to Howard Brown believing as I do that everyone deserves quality healthcare,” Barrett said.
